Religious Education classes offered in 3rd thru 8th grade are the foundation for confirmation preparation. Diocesan Guidelines state that “A minimum of two (2) years of formal religious education in a parish or Catholic school program precedes preparation for the celebration of the sacrament of confirmation. Many struggle with the attitude of confirmation being the “graduation” sacrament. Confirmation is part of a four-year high school catechetical program and the celebration of the sacrament can take place anytime within that period for those adequately prepared.” The Parish of St. Elizabeth confirms when a student is in their 10th grade of high school, but preparation can be extended past 10th grade should the student not have an understanding of the faith, a desire to receive the sacrament or met the pre-requisite preparation as outlined above. Preparation for Confirmation aims at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit–his actions, his gifts, and his biddings–in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. Regular Mass attendance is required as preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation. During their preparation, students will be required to join a parish ministry, serving as a disciple of Christ, as well as select a confirmation saint name and attend an off-site retreat. A letter to the pastor describing their faith journey, service and desire to receive the sacrament will also be required. Detailed information can be found in the Confirmation Student Handbook.
If you miss a class, in order for it to be counted as "excused", you will need to complete make up work. Please request the make up materials from the Adult Volunteer at the Sign-in table. Complete the questions in the assignment and turn them in at your next class.
